587 B.C. : destruction of the first Temple. First exile under Nebuchadnezzar.
537 B.C. : end of the exile
332 B.C. : beginning of the conquests of Alexander the Great.
165 B.C. : Rebellion of the Maccabees, beginning of the Hasmonean period
60 B.C. : Pompey imposed the Roman power in Judea
70 A.D. : First Jewish rebellion, destruction of the 2nd Temple by Titus.
135 : 2nd rebellion with Bar Kokhba. Jerusalem is totally destroyed under Hadrian.
220 : Compiling of the Mishna (a part of the Talmud dealing with ethical behaviour) by Yehouda ha Nassi.
500 : end of the talmudic period
1040-1105 : Rabbi Rachi of Troyes.
1138-1204 : Maimonide
XVIIIth Century : writing of the Zohar
1290 : expulsion of the Jews from England
1306 and 1394 : expulsion of the Jews from France
1391 : forced conversions of the Jews in Spain
1492 : expulsion of the Jews from Spain. Birth of news communities in the Holy Land, in Turkey, Poland and Lithuania.
1648 : Poland is invaded by the Cossacks. Slaughters of Jewish communities (pogroms).
1720 : Birth of the Hassidic movement in Poland.
1880 : beginning of modern anti-semitism.
1894 : Dreyfus affair in France.
1897 : The "Jewish State" by Theodore Herzl. Beginning of political sionism.
1933-1945 : Nazism and the Shoah. 6 millions of Jews are killed in Europe.
1948 : declaration of independence of Israel. Recognition of the new state by the UNO.
